Education & Coaching
Julie has much experience in coaching and educational shows and workshops through a variety of different projects.
Julie was heavily involved in Concordia Foundation's Young Audiences Concerts as an active devisor of script material and show presenter for their shows 'A Journey To Meet Peter and the Wolf', 'The Rhythm of Life - Our Musical World', and 'The Spotted Cow and the Pianoforte'. The shows took place at Wiltons Theatre in the East End for over 2000 local schoolchildren in Tower Hamlets. Clips of the shows will soon be available on the media sections of the site, but in the meantime follow the links on the titles. Julie and the London Myriad Ensemble also took workshops out to local Tower Hamlets Schools and to schools in Surrey and Kent.
Julie also worked with the charity Hemihelp as a workshop leader for a couple of years, running Music Workshops as part of their pilot scheme which ran across the country at venues in Cardiff, Manchester, Kent and London. The charity helps children who are born with hemiplegia to make music with instruments tailored to their needs and as a group:
“Thanks for a great music day. It was excellent! We now already have a left-handed recorder in our possession via Reach, so thank you. (We) can’t wait to get started!” “Thanks very much... you really pulled out all the stops to put on a really energetic and meaty workshop. The leaders were all charming and created just the right atmosphere with a lovely light touch."
Julie also gives masterclasses across the country for wind players and chamber music. She thoroughly enjoys inspiring young (or older!) musicians to reach the best of their ability:
"Earlier this year The Godolphin School Music Department was privileged to be visited by concert flautist Julie Groves, who conducted a masterclass for the school’s A2 music performance candidates (OCR syllabus). Consisting of three flautists and one oboist, the repertoire ranged from early Baroque works through to 21st century compositions incorporating extended techniques and Miss Groves provided invaluable insight and assistance in all periods and performing styles. Miss Groves possesses a unique ability to tailor her instruction specifically to the student concerned and always in a manner that is sensitive to each student’s particular personality and issues. This was especially evident with the oboe student, whose rendering benefited enormously from Miss Groves’ performance advice, despite the fact that the repertoire did not naturally slot in to her own area of expertise. Her extremely detailed teaching in the Poulenc Flute Sonata gave a fresh perspective on a highly familiar piece of repertoire and I know that the wealth of knowledge she imparted to each performer meant that all of the students involved found the class an enlightening and valuable experience.
It was a great pleasure to work with Miss Groves at this event and I would highly recommend her as an educator in any situation or environment."

Julie has also given advanced coaching, in her capacity with the London Myriad Ensemble, at Benslow Music Centre with Wind Ensembles with the Myriads. Following it's highly successful first year, the ensemble has been invited back twice in 2011! Please see upcoming events for details:
"..let me repeat my thanks to all of you for making this course such a rewarding experience for us. Your technical and musical advice, your enthusiasm and your energy were amongst many highlights. The work you put in and the way you handled each session were others. This was by far the most effective and enjoyable course we have attended, anywhere."
